aleppo

And the bombs keep falling
Like fast tears down a face
Still no god comes calling
Oh what a goddamn disgrace
And the children keep dying
Their childhood’s long dead anyway
And old men keep crying
Till they cry their lives away
And everyone’s an orphan here
This unloved bastard of a city once
Where the air is thick with fear
And smoke from the coughing guns
Soon there’ll be nothing left
Nothing but the niggle of memory
And us with our crushing debt
The dues of the unhelping free.

scythe

He wielded a secret sword so great
It winked and whistled as it sliced through fate
And like pretty pointed shoes at a dance
It twirled merrily as it slashed past chance
It pierced mountains without a care
Plunged through rivers for just a dare
It cut down gnarled Goliaths neatly in half
With nary a grunt but many a laugh
It stabbed doubt in the chest just to be sure
And turned the blade in to see if it could endure
They begged to know if they could see his steel
If it was something they too could perchance feel
So he showed them a thin book; there fluttered one page
On which glistened one red word - courage.

payback

death looked at life and said
“You know; I wish that you were dead.”
life gently replied, “Yes, but I forgive
I only wish that you could live.”

A Diwali in Delhi

the city on its knees, turns up its gaze
at a sky that's a funeral pyre ablaze
and through all the coughing and choking
wonders what the motherfuckers are smoking.

abhimanyu

a hero comes laughing into the world
his mouth is crying but his fist is curled.
